After the Press Conference on November 11, 2011 in Philadelphia, PA, a Special Radio Interview (in English) was conducted on the occasion of His Beatitude, Sviatoslav Shevchuk's Pastoral Visit to Philadelphia. The Interview questions to Major-Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk were asked by Osip Roshka.

On Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2011, there will be a special radio broadcast in English on the Philadelphia radio station WWDB 860am from 12:30 to 1:00pm. This program will be archived, and after the broadcast is completed, it can be downloaded from the station's website at www.wwdbam.com . The interview is by the production staff of the UECC radio program, Radio Philadelphia, and they are grateful to radio station WWDB for providing the air time to broadcast this special program.

Metropolitan-Archbishop Stefan Soroka celebrated his 60th Birthday with the Chancery Staff a couple days early of his November 13th Birthday.

Metropolitan Stefan's birthday is the same day that His Beatitude, Major-Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk visits the Cathedral in Philadelphia.

With the approach of the busy weekend, the Chancery staff celebrated with Metropolitan Stefan at lunch on Thursday with a delicious cake decorated with festive blue and yellow frosting.

The Chancery Staff wishes Metropolitan Stefan a very Happy Birthday, Mnohaya Lita!

Ascension Manor Grand Reopening







Ascension Manor's Grand Reopening, Dedication, and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was held on October 15, 2011.

HIS BEATITUDE, KYR SVIATOSLAV SHEVCHUK TO VISIT PHILADELPHIA

On Sunday, November 13th, a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 2:30PM at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with the clergy and faithful of the Archeparchy.Following the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, a reception will be held at the Liberty View Ballroom in the Independence Visitor Center (6th and Market Streets). The reception will be from 6:00PM-9:00PM. The cost for the reception is $100.00 per person. Tickets may be purchased from the Archeparchy of Philadelphia by mail or through PayPal© on the Archeparchy of Philadelphia website. Round-trip transportation by trolley from the Cathedral to the Independence Center will be provided during that time.

The 11:00 Divine Liturgy at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Philadelphia, PA on 9/11/11 was in remembrance of the Victims of the September 11th tragedy in 2001. Members of the Knights of Columbus, parishioners, and friends attended the Liturgy along with Rev. Ivan Demkiv, Rev. Paul J. Makar, Deacon Charles Schultz, Deacon Michael Waak, Subdeacon Roman Oprysk, and the Missionary Sisters of the Mother of God. On display on the tetrapod was the Icon of Our Mother of Sorrows with the image of 9/11.

Blessing Cars at Chancery

In honor of the Feast of St. Elijah, the Great Prophet (July 20), Metropolitan-Archbishop Stefan Soroka blessed cars of the Chancery Staff in the Parking Lot of the Chancery. St. Elijah ascended into heaven in a fiery chariot and on July 20th, we bless our "motorized chariots" remembering the Great Elijah.

Open House at Ascension Manor

Ascension Manor (a senior citizen apartment complex) held an Open House for members of the Board of Directors and various organizations that played a role in the $11 million renovation project at Ascension Manor. Ascension Manor is under the direction of the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia and is located one block from the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Philadelphia. The 2011 Song Festival: "Songs of the heart..." was held at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Philadelphia, PA on June 5, 2011. It was organized by Fr. Popyk, Director of the Office of Religious Education of the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia. Below are videos from the concert. June 5th - Songs of the Heart Concert

On Sunday, June 5, 2011, the Archeparchial Office of Religious Education will hold the 1st Annual Festival of Children's Songs, at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Philadelphia, PA at 3PM. The theme of this festival will be "Songs of the Heart." This will be a concert of various religious songs sung by the children of our various parishes in our Archeparchy.

Participants need to be registered with the Office of Religious Education no later than Wednesday, May 18, 2011. To register participants for this event, please contact:

Chornobyl 25th

Philadelphia commemorates 25th anniversary of Chornobyl at the Cathedral

The Ukrainian community of the Greater Philadelphia area, in solidarity with and support from the local Japanese community, commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Chornobyl nuclear catastrophe on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 7:00 pm at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception located at 830 North Franklin Street, Philadelphia PA 19123. All proceeds raised during the commemorative concert that featured Ukrainian choirs and a performance by the Japanese-American community were designated for victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Good Friday 2011 in Williamstown, NJ

Good Friday Vespers & Procession with Plaschanitsa at Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Williamstown, NJ. The procession leaves through the main doors and goes around the church three times (or once), proceeding to the right as they leave the building. Thus commemorating the taking of the Lord's Body, symbolized by His image on the Holy Shroud, to the tomb for burial.

THE RIGHT REVEREND MONSIGNOR MICHAEL FEDOROWICH

JANUARY 19, 1930-APRIL 25, 2011

The Right Reverend Monsignor Michael Fedorowich, fell asleep in the Lord, Bright Monday afternoon, April 25, 2011. He served God and the faithful of the Ukrainian Catholic Church as a priest incardinated in the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia for over 50 years, until his retirement from the active ministry as pastor of Transfiguration of Our Lord Church in Shamokin due to ill health in 2006. For the past two years, he had been a resident of Maria Joseph Manor, Danville, Pa.

Monsignor Fedorowich, one of seven children, was born to the late Michael and Anastasia Wolos Fedorowich in Mahanoy Plane, PA on January 19, 1930.

He attended St. Basil Preparatory School in Stamford CT, where he graduated as class valedictorian in 1947.

He then enrolled in St. Basil’s College Seminary, Stamford, CT, and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in Philosophy in 1951.

As a major seminarian at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Seminary, Washington, D.C., he matriculated at The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C., where he completed his theological studies required for priestly ordination in 1955 and earned his Licentiate in Sacred Theology.

He was ordained to the holy priesthood on June 11, 1955 by the late Archbishop Constantine Bohachevsky in the old Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Philadelphia, PA.

The newly-ordained Father Michael celebrated his Divine Liturgy of Thanksgiving in his home parish, St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Maizeville, PA.

He served as assistant pastor of the following parishes: Ss. Peter and Paul, Ansonia, CT; St. Michael the Archangel, Hartford, CT; St. Nicholas, Philadelphia, PA.

He served as pastor of St. Piux X Church, Houston, TX, where he was founding pastor; Protection of the BVM Church, Bristol, PA; Assumption of the BVM Church, Perth Amboy, NJ; Annunciation of the BVM Church, Melrose Park, PA; St. Josaphat Church, Parma, OH, where he provided the leadership for the construction of the cathedral of the Parma Eparchy of St. Josaphat; and Transfiguration of Our Lord Church, Shamokin, PA.

From 1962 to 1974 and from 1983 to 1993, he served as rector of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Philadelphia and during his tenure as rector the new cathedral was constructed in the 1960’s.

Because of his administrative talents and organizational skills, Msgr. Fedorowich also served the Archeparchy of Philadelphia as vicar general, member of the College of Consultors and member of the Archieparchial Corporation; director of the Office of Religious Education; member of the board of the Catholic Apostolate; editor of The Way; member of the Tribunal; member of the seminary advisory board.

He also served as Protopresbyter of the South Anthracite Deanery and Spiritual Director of the South Anthracite Deanery Holy Name Society.

On May 31, 1968, Pope Paul VI elevated him to the rank of Papal Chamberlain with the title of Very Reverend Monsignor. He received another papal ecclesiastical honor when Pope John Paul II elevated him to the rank of Papal Chaplain with the title of Right Reverend on October 16, 1985.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Maclean, and brothers Peter, Walter, John and Raymond Fedorowich.

Msgr. Michael is survived by a sister, Olga Cleary, North Miami, FL and nieces and nephews.

His funeral Divine Liturgy will be celebrated, Tuesday, May 3 at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Maizeville, Pa. by Metropolitan-Archbishop Stefan Soroka, Bishop Basil H. Losten, and his brother priests.

His body will lie in repose in Transfiguration of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church, Shamokin from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, May 2. Priestly Parastas will be sung at 7 p.m. Monday evening.

Tuesday morning his body will lie in repose in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Maizeville, PA from 8:30 a.m. until the celebration of the Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Cumru Township, Reading, PA.

It was Msgr. Fedorowich’s desire that those wishing to do so, may offer contributions in his memory for: The Poor and Hungry in Ukraine, c/o Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia, 827 North Franklin Street, Philadelphia, Pa. 19123-2097.

This year, the Palm Sunday falls to 17 April. According to the Gospel, when Jesus Christ raised Lazarus from the dead, the people who witnessed it, believed that he was really the Son of God. When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the people honored him by spreading their cloths on his way and waving the palm branches. In Ukraine, it palm was symbolically replaced by willow.

25th Anniversary Chornobyl


Commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of the Chornobyl Nuclear Catastrophe in Philadelphia The Ukrainian community of the Greater Philadelphia area, in solidarity with and support from the local Japanese community, will be commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Chornobyl nuclear catastrophe on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 7:00 pm at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception located at 830 North Franklin Street, Philadelphia PA 19123. Buses are being organized and will be leaving from the Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center. Please call the UECC Office at 215.663.1166 to reserve a free seat and for additional information. All proceeds raised during the commemorative concert featuring Ukrainian choirs and a performance by the Japanese-American community are designated for victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. After the program, Metropolitan-Archbishop Stefan Soroka will be hosting refreshments in the church hall.

Liturgy in preparation for the Electoral Synod

On March 20, 2011 at St. George’s Cathedral in Lviv a Hierarchal Divine Liturgy was celebrated in preparation for the Electoral Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, which will elect a new Father and Head of the UGCC. The day of prayer and spiritual reflection began with a Divine Liturgy, the purpose of which was to try to get to know God’s will concerning a new UGCC Spiritual Leader.

Participating in the Divine Liturgy, headed by UGCC Administrator Most Rev. Igor (Voznyak), were all the bishops of the UGCC from Ukraine and abroad. They will collectively take part in the Electoral Synod. Rev.Dr. Borys Gudziak, the rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University, delivered a sermon to the assembly.
