Metropolitan Soroka's 10th Anniversary - Videos from 2001

On Februrary 27, 2011 we celebrate 10 Years that The Most Reverend Stefan Soroka became the Metropolitan-Archbishop for the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia.

May God grant you many Happy and Blessed Years! Mnohaya Lita!

Below are videos from his Enthronement Divine Liturgy from 10 years ago on February 27, 2001.

Video 1 - Procession (February 27, 2001)

Video 2 - Axios! (February 27, 2001)

"Axios!" means worthy. By singing this response, the faithful affirm the worthiness of the installation of the metropolitan. The Apostolic Nuncio said "Receive this pastoral staff with which you are to shepherd Christ's flock entrusted to your care. Axios!" The Apostolic Nuncio hands the pastoral staff to Archbishop Stefan. The pastoral staff or crozier is a symbol of the archbishop's spiritual authority over the archeparchy. The choir sings a song of thanksgiving and during the singing, the priests of the Philadelphia Archeparchy approach Archbishop Stefan, kiss his hand, epignation and omophor on the right shoulder and return to their places.

Congratulations on your 10th Anniversary! Mnohaya Lita!

Blessing of Candles on February 2, 2011

Rev. Myron Myronyuk, Cathedral Assistant, blessed candles at the 9am Liturgy at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Philadelphia, PA on February 2, 2011. The Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord in the Temple/Encounter of Our Lord with Simeon and Anna.

About the Feast Day...

According to the Law of Moses, all Hebrew parents must bring their first born son on the fortieth day after birth to the Temple to be consecrated to God. In fulfillment of this law, the Mother of God with Joseph brought the infant Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem.

Thus, forty days after Christmas, on the second of February, the Church celebrates the feast of the presentation called the Encounter (Meeting or Presentation).

It was revealed to Simeon by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen Christ the Lord.

When Mary with Joseph brought the infant Jesus, Simeon met the Child, took Him in his arms, and glorifying God said, “Now lettest Thou Thy servant depart in peace, O Master, according to Thy word, for mine eyes have seen Thy salvation, which Thou has prepared before the face of all peoples, a light of revelation for the Gentiles, and the glory of Thy people Israel."
